Gender Affirming Learning Series 2019-2020

Howard Brown’s Center for Education, Research and Advocacy is proud to announce the 2019-2020 Gender Affirming Learning Series. In alignment with our strategic plan and commitment to serve transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) communities, the department of education has developed a series of educational events to build bridges between TGNC communities and health care providers. Our goal is to create a platform that makes space for bilateral discussion; for community to inform providers and for providers to support community. To achieve this end, we have planned this schedule of events, consisting of 2 webinars and a half-day seminar.

Midwest LGBTQ Health Symposium 2020

Howard Brown’s Midwest LGBTQ Health Symposium brings together healthcare professionals, educators, researchers and advocates from across the country to disseminate evidence-based practices and engage in rigorous discussion on current issues in LGBTQ health. Through this event, we aim to empower healthcare professionals in offering high quality care that supports and affirms the LGBTQ community.

Past symposia have been structured in tracks to focus areas of interest and emphasize health disparities that exist for LGBTQ communities across the lifecourse.  Topics have included: LGBTQ Health Foundations, Addressing Social Determinants of Health, Integrating Behavioral Health in Primary Care Settings, Gender Affirming Healthcare,

Trauma-Informed Healthcare for LGBTQ Patients, HIV Care and Treatment.

In alignment with our strategic plan and commitment to serve transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) communities, the department of education will maintain a dedicated track for Transgender Health, multiple tracks that focus on LGBQ health disparities and workshops to build skills needed to support LGBTQ health and wellness.  Our goal is to advance strategies that incorporate best practices to multi-disciplinary teams in a variety of health care settings.
