Letter to Community: We Will Survive This Together
This email was sent to over 40,000 Howard Brown Health community members on the morning of November 6, 2024.
Dear Community Members,
We hoped that we didn’t have to send this email. The results of today’s presidential election mean that we will likely face significant threats to accessible affirming healthcare and to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in our country in the coming years, alongside countless other issues that impact our patients and our staff.
When we were founded in 1974, legal protections for the marginalized communities we serve simply did not exist. We have survived in spite of that for 50 years now and will continue to for at least another 50. We will ensure that our communities continue to receive the care they need.
Although we will likely face countless challenges ahead, Howard Brown Health is committed to providing the care our patients need and deserve. Our Advocacy department is prepared to closely monitor upcoming legislative and judicial changes to ensure that we can adapt to anything that comes our way. We will fight at the local, state, and national level to ensure that our community can receive the care we need.
We remain rooted in LGBTQ+ healthcare liberation, dedicated to providing affirming healthcare and fighting to build social justice for the communities we serve.
No matter what is thrown at us, we will withstand it. We will ensure that we can grow old together.
Thank you so much for your strength and solidarity through these difficult times.
With care,
Robin Gay, DMD
Interim President and CEO
