Patient Financial Services Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY: Patient Financial Services Specialist assists with the revenue cycle process, helps resolve patient and insurance billing issues, and communicates with internal staff regarding billing activities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for obtaining insurance information from patients and conducting a detailed benefit and eligibility verification of insurance benefits
- Responsible for answering and resolving patients’ questions and concerns regarding third-party laboratory bills and clinic bills
- Assist in reviewing and managing patient and insurance Accounts Receivable (A/R)
- Assist in ensuring charges are submitted in a timely manner
- Assist in auditing sliding fee applications to ensure that patients were assessed at the appropriate sliding fee scale
- Assist in obtaining and verifying proof of income and sliding fee applications for uninsured patients
- Assist in auditing sliding fee applications to ensure that patients were assessed at the appropriate sliding fee scale
- Serve as resource for questions from PSR and Call Center staff relating to revenue cycle processes
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL REQUIRED:
Required:
- Minimum high school diploma required
- At least two years of experience in healthcare billing setting
- Strong technology proficiencies in electronic medical records and Microsoft Office.
- Must have solid knowledge of billing and financial concepts.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills required.
- Capable of making timely, independent decisions in an administrative setting.
- Highly organized with coordinator background helpful.
- Polished oral, written and interpersonal communications skills required to provide timely and exceptional customer service to patients and internal staff
Preferred:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field
- Preferred experience with Centricity Practice Management System and related clearinghouses

- Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- May require occasional bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- May require periodic travel.
