A Letter from our Board Chair
Dear Community Members:
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are pleased to welcome you to Howard Brown Health, the Midwest’s largest LGBTQ organization. I am honored and humbled to serve as your Howard Brown Health Board Chair, and look forward to championing the mission of our organization during my tenure.
Through your steadfast support, each and every one of you can help support better health and wellness for individuals in the communities we serve. Together we can ensure that Howard Brown Health continues to provide our communities with culturally competent quality health care.
Since 1974, Howard Brown has continually addressed the gaps in care that affect LGBTQ individuals and allies, becoming one of the nation’s largest community healthcare and research organizations catering to our community.
As part of a fabric of community-based organizations, Howard Brown experienced extensive changes throughout its history. Through the years, Howard Brown pushed forward, overcoming challenging times due to the dedication and passion of community members like yourself and our amazing staff. Today we are a thriving organization due in part to a committed community of patients and supporters. Of note, we are embarking on new journeys that are in line with our three year strategic plan, Pursuing Excellence. We will be implementing the first of its kind Gender and Sexual Health Center of Excellence – a major stride forward in addressing equality of healthcare for our community.
As a young professional, Howard Brown has played an important part in my life in meeting my unique healthcare needs as a Latino gay man. As a member of the Board since 2014, I am impressed by the organization’s determination to serve diverse LGBTQ people near where they live and work. While our roots remain on the northside lakefront, Howard Brown today is an active community partner in the Englewood and Hyde Park neighborhoods on the southside and Rogers Park on the far northside. We will continue to pursue ways to meet the needs of our constituents citywide.
I am excited about the many new possibilities ahead. We can all be proud of what Howard Brown Health stands for and its legacy for providing services to all. As Chair, I am proud to build upon our organization’s history and look forward to getting to know you. We are Howard Brown Health.
