Benefits Navigation: Asked and Answered
As one of our Benefits Navigation Coordinators at Howard Brown Health, many people have frequently asked questions about benefits navigation and their insurance. Especially now, more than ever, access to healthcare and services is paramount. I’ve compiled some answers to our most frequent questions. One thing that people usually ask when it comes to insurance navigation is: How can I afford insurance? People are often surprised to find out they qualify for Medicaid or that they qualify for tax credits that lower their monthly premiums with marketplace insurance plans.
Currently, the hardest part right now regarding benefit navigation for patients is the stress of having to understand the terms of the health insurance. For example, understanding coverage, what deductibles, premiums , co-insurance are, along with the stress and anxiety of dealing with a global pandemic at the same time. The silver lining is, that my team and I are here to streamline the insurance navigation process thereby, reducing some stress for the patients.
The process of getting insurance itself can be a bit complicated if you are not properly prepared. Being prepared is having all the necessary documentation and verification to complete the application process. If you are prepared it makes the process of getting insurance that much easier.
I highly recommend for those looking for new insurance right now to be prepared! Have all the needed documentation and verification such as proof of income, proof of residency, government issued identification, social security numbers and cards and previous year tax returns (if necessary). My team will assess the patients’ needs and inform them of any specific items they may need.
We know that the COVID-19 crisis has left many concerned about health insurance. Howard Brown Health’s Benefits Navigation team is ready to help you navigate the insurance marketplace, Medicaid, and more.
The federal government and the State of Illinois are expanding Medicaid services and unemployment insurance. Individuals may even qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) with Healthcare.gov marketplace health insurance plans.
