Botulinum toxin (Botox) injection services are offered by dentists to treat issues such as bruxism (teeth grinding), and to relax facial muscles.
If you desire to reduce facial wrinkles or are experiencing discomfort and wearing an occlusal night guard to manage jaw pain, clenching, or grinding, you may be a candidate for an innovative treatment option now available at our Howard Brown Health Dental Care centers.
Dental Botox has been shown to provide relief for patients experiencing discomfort from teeth grinding and jaw clenching by targeting the source of the muscle activity. This may reduce your reliance on a night guard and help improve comfort in daily life as well as beginning to diminish distinctive facial lines.
Injections of Botox are known to relax selected muscles which allows skin to recover to its natural smoothness. The regular, long-term use of Botox under the direction and application of your Howard Brown Health Dental Care provider, provides best results in managing the relaxation of stimulated muscles causing the grinding and facial lines.
Howard Brown Health Dental Care providers can determine if you are a candidate for “dental botox” or “botulinum toxin for dentistry” at either our 63rd St or Halsted Health Centers. Make your appointment today to determine if you can benefit from Dental Botox.
Common Uses for Botulinum Toxin in Dentistry
- Bruxism (Teeth Grinding): Botox helps to relax the muscles responsible for clenching and grinding teeth, providing relief from pain and muscle tension.
- Facial Aesthetics: Botox can reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth and on the face.
Important Considerations
- Consultation: Prior to treatment you will receive a consultation to discuss goals for your care, your recommended treatment plan and an estimated costs for treatment. You will also receive information about post treatment care including your expectations during treatment, precautions and hazards of Botox use. Once consultation has occurred a treatment appointment will be set.
- Dental Botox is currently not covered by insurance plans and considered out of pocket. Therapeutic uses of Botox, such as for Bruxism, may be covered by medical insurance, while cosmetic uses are typically not. You will need to seek reimbursement directly from your insurance provider should they cover the procedure.
- Temporary Results: The effects of Botox are temporary, lasting about three to six months before repeat treatments are needed.
- Pre and Post-Treatment Care: You will be provided with information both pre and post treatment. It is important to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas after the injection to prevent the toxin from migrating.
