Howard Brown Health Reaches Mutual Settlement with National Labor Relations Board

(November 22, 2024 – Chicago, IL) – Howard Brown Health has reached a mutual settlement agreement with Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) regarding unfair labor practice charges filed by the Illinois Nurses Association (INA).

The mutually agreeable settlement allows Howard Brown to provide back pay and compensation to employees represented by the INA who were affected by the January 2023 reduction in force, while still ensuring that the agency will provide lifesaving, life-changing care to patients.  This resolution marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organization, enabling it to operate with greater financial stability while still maintaining critical healthcare services for the community.

“This agreement represents an important step in our path to healing and moving forward as a united organization,” said Robin Gay, DMD, Interim President and CEO of Howard Brown Health. “We’re grateful to have reached a mutually beneficial resolution with the INA that addresses the concerns of our colleagues while ensuring the long-term financial stability of Howard Brown Health. Our primary focus remains on delivering exceptional care, and this settlement allows us to do so in partnership with our dedicated staff.”

An agreement was reached today on the terms of the settlement and it was finalized by both parties. Funds will be disbursed to affected current and former staff members in the coming weeks.
