Howard Brown Health Applauds the American Medical Association’s Declaration of Gun Violence as a Public Health Crisis

(Chicago, IL, June 15, 2016) – Yesterday, the American Medical Association (AMA) declared gun violence a national public health crisis and called on Congress to lift the ban on gun violence research. In the wake of the mass shooting at an LGTBQ nightclub in Orlando, David Ernesto Munar, Howard Brown Health’s President and CEO, issued the following statement:

“Howard Brown Health commends the AMA for recognizing what many of us have known for so long, that the nation’s gun violence epidemic threatens the public’s health and welfare.  Leaders must act swiftly to curb gun violence in America. As a community healthcare center, we add our voices to the debate in calling for greater research, resources, and gun control measures designed to curb gun-related crimes.  Despite an epidemic of shootings across Chicago and the U.S., our society has not done enough.  The loss of so many in Orlando and across the country demands swift measures to prevent the next tragedy.”

Howard Brown Health is offering drop-in support sessions for the community to access on Tuesday, June 21, 6 – 8 p.m. at the Brown Elephant located at 3020 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657.
