Howard Brown Health Breaks Ground at New North Side Clinic
The custom-built clinic, scheduled to open in 2023, will be a replacement site for its clinic along the Northalsted Strip
(March 25, 2022 – Chicago, IL) – Today, Howard Brown Health held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site of its forthcoming replacement clinic along the Northalsted business corridor. Located at 3501 N. Halsted, the new five-story building will include expanded medical care, social services, and Howard Brown’s first North Side dental clinic.
“Howard Brown Health is thrilled with this next step in increasing access to affirming healthcare services for the LGBTQ+ community on the North Side,” said David Ernesto Munar, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health. “Howard Brown has proudly served the Northalsted community for nearly 50 years. We strive to be a reliable safe space for anyone looking for culturally competent health and wellness services, and we hope our new site contributes to preserving the LGBTQ+ culture of the historic neighborhood.”
Howard Brown thanks United States Representative Mike Quigley and Illinois Senator Sarah Feigenholtz for their partnership in this project. Howard Brown also thanks Aldermen James Cappleman and Tom Tunney for their tireless support for this vital healthcare clinic. Today’s event featured remarks from David Ernesto Munar, President and CEO of Howard Brown Health, Dr. Robin Gay, Chief Dental Officer for Howard Brown, and Jared Lewis, Executive Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.
In recent years, Howard Brown has experienced limited capacity for new patients at other North Side locations on Halsted and Sheridan; the relocation will help Howard Brown better serve its patients and improve health outcomes. The new clinic will triple the clinical space, increase capacity for walk-in sexual and reproductive health, as well as behavioral and wraparound supportive systems. With the addition of Howard Brown’s first North Side dental clinic, it will also expand its affirming model of oral health, currently only offered at its clinic in Englewood.
The custom building is designed by Eckenhoff Saunders architects, with construction by James McHugh Construction Co., in partnership with Inland National Development Company.
Howard Brown is currently raising funds for the new Halsted clinic, Broadway Youth Center, and the construction of a site for a South Side Community Center. Find out more at howardbrown.org/WeCare
