Howard Brown Health to Close Diversey and Thresholds South Locations, Integrate Patients into Other Clinics
(May 20, 2024 – Chicago, IL) – Howard Brown Health has announced that its Diversey clinic at 2800 North Sheridan Road and Thresholds South clinic at 734 West 47th Street will close by early fall. The decision was made to address an ongoing organizational financial shortfall, accompanied by the departure of the sole providers for each location and commercial lease agreements ending for each clinic.
“These closures mark a business decision that will ensure our ability to serve patients with quality care for the next 50 years,” said Robin Gay, DMD, Interim President & CEO of Howard Brown Health. “As we continue to work to achieve fiscal sustainability, we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide core health care services to all individuals in our community, regardless of their ability to pay.”
Howard Brown will support all patients at both sites to ensure the continuity of their primary and/or psychiatric health care. The organization will have the capacity to bring affected patients into care at other Howard Brown clinics within 15 minutes of their current care site.
Impacted staff and providers have been notified of the clinic closures. The vast majority of affected staff will be reassigned to other Howard Brown Health sites wherever positions are available. Howard Brown does not anticipate a reduction in force as a result of these clinic closures.
Howard Brown continues to experience a financial shortfall of an expected $6.6 million deficit created by a changing funding landscape and has taken action to refine operations more effectively and efficiently, while strengthening its core services of primary care, dental care and behavioral health.
The Diversey clinic will close Aug. 31, 2024. The Thresholds South clinic will close Sept. 30, 2024.
More information will be sent to affected patients and staff members in due course.
