Steven is the Senior Individual Giving Officer at Howard Brown Health, where he manages the Vernita Gray Council for Philanthropy.  He is honored to be an advocate for donors and empower council members to raise money for Howard Brown’s mission to “eliminate the disparities in healthcare experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through research, education and the provision of services that promote health and wellness.”

Prior to Howard Brown, Steven served as the Manager of Individual Giving at Center on Halsted, the largest LGBTQ Center in the Midwest, where he has been volunteering since 2007.  He served as the Senior Annual Giving Officer at The Rotary Foundation empowering Rotarians in 30 Rotary districts in the western region of North America to raise money for The Rotary Foundation. He traveled to region more than 76 times, including 32 sponsored trips during his 11-year tenure. He educated and inspired donors by sharing resources, giving presentations and conducting trainings.  One of his greatest honors was becoming an honorary member of the Rotary Club of San Francisco-Castro which is Rotary’s first LGBTQ+ Rotary club.

He earned a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management with a concentration in Fundraising Management from Spertus College in Chicago, a Certificate in Fund Raising Management through the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and was awarded the Association of Fundraising Professionals Chamberlain Scholarship.  He served on the board of Women in Development North “advancing women in the development profession… and those transitioning in the fundraising field.”
