Mario Treto, Jr. serves in Governor Pritzker’s cabinet as the Acting Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In this role, Treto oversees the regulation of over 1.2 million licenses including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, real estate brokers, and cosmetologists, almost 200 state-charter credit unions, over 300 state-charter commercial and savings banks, and 15,000 mortgage loan originators, companies, and branches.
Treto sits on the Board of Directors for the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials and the Conference of State Bank Supervisors State Coordinating Committee. He is also a Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow, Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors at Howard Brown Health, and sits on the Alumni Board of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law. Treto has been nationally recognized by various organizations, including the International Municipal Lawyers Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, and the National LGBT Bar. He has received leadership accolades from Crain’s Chicago Business, Business Equality Magazine, Chicago Scholars, and Hispanic business publication Negocios Now. In 2018 he was presented with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Humanitarian Award, and in 2020 he received the Illinois REALTORS® Presidential Medallion.
Treto received his Juris Doctor from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts in biology and psychology from Washington University in St. Louis.
