Howard Brown Health

Howard Brown Health was founded in 1974 and is now one of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organizations. The agency serves more than 16,000 adults and youth each year in its diverse health and social service delivery system focused around seven major programmatic divisions: primary medical care, behavioral health, research, HIV/STD prevention, youth services, elder services, and community initiatives. Howard Brown serves men and women, infants, youth, and children through a multi-site operation based in Chicago that includes health centers in Lakeview (Howard Brown Health Halsted), Rogers Park (Howard Brown Health Clark), and Uptown (Howard Brown Health Sheridan) in addition to the Broadway Youth Center, and three Brown Elephant resale shops in Chicago (Lakeview and Andersonville neighborhoods) and Oak Park.


 

Beth Israel: LGBT Health Services (NYC)

Beth Israel Medical Center LGBT Health Services is committed to meeting the special health care needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community with respect and compassion. They provide an array of health, referral and educational services, promote LGBT health equity and access to care, and develop effective partnerships with LGBT organizations, agencies and allies. Their LGBT-sensitive physicians have thorough knowledge of the health care needs of the LGBT community, and offer access to the full resources of Beth Israel Medical Center should the need for further care arise.


 

Center of Excellence for Transgender Health (San Francisco)

The mission of the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health is to increase access to comprehensive, effective, and affirming health care services for trans and gender-variant communities.


 

The Fenway Institute National LGBT Health Education Center (Boston, MA)

The National LGBT Health Education Center provides educational programs, resources, and consultation to health care organizations with the goal of optimizing quality, cost-effective health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.


 

Gender Health Center (Sacramento)

The Gender Health Center is a non-profit organization meeting the counseling needs of Sacramento and the surrounding areas by making services accessible to the most underserved communities, including the LGBTQQI community and focusing on the “T” or transgender. They strive to provide excellent counseling/therapy services to anyone who expresses the need as well as anyone who self identifies or is perceived to be gender variant. Our services embrace the psychological well-being and self-fulfillment of individuals coming out and/or beginning or in the transition process in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment. They are a not for profit agency so fees are on a sliding scale to help make services as easily accessible and available to everyone. They also offer resources and referrals to other LGBT friendly organizations.


 

The Inland Northwest LGBT Center (Spokane, WA)

Their mission is to build a vibrant LGBTQ community through collaborative programs promoting education, advocacy and wellness. They host a variety of workshops and events including counseling, a healthy living group, medical referrals, and more.


 

Mazzoni Center (Philadelphia)

A center dedicated to providing quality comprehensive health and wellness services in an LGBT-focused environment, while preserving the dignity and improving the quality of life of the individuals they serve.


 

MetroHealth LGBT Pride Clinic (Cleveland, OH)

MetroHealth’s Pride Clinic at the McCafferty Health Center is the first clinic in the region and one of only 12 health centers in the country devoted to serving the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. With specially trained physicians and an open and honest environment, they provide care that respects your unique health needs.

 


 

Resource Center Dallas: Transgender Health (Dallas, TX)

The Center offers low cost, comprehensive labs with hormone monitoring through consultation with our medical provider. Transgender health night is the third Monday night of each month from 6-8 p.m. by appointment only.

University of Minnesota Transgender Health Services (Minneapolis, MN)

The Center for Sexual Health serves the special health needs of the diverse transgender community, including individuals who identify as transgender, transexual, crossdresser, bigender, drag queen, drag king, female impersonator, and their families. Clinical services include: Psychological, physical, and psychiatric evaluations; Individual, group, couple, and family psychotherapy; Evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents; Physical health care, including prescriptions of appropriate medications and hormones; Recommendations for sex reassignment surgery; Ongoing support for transgender and transexual individuals who have had sex reassignment; Counseling for intersexuality; Sex therapy; and more.

Legacy Community Health Services (Houston, TX)

Legacy is a full-service, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that identifies unmet needs and gaps in health-related services and develops client-centered programs to address those needs. They currently provide primary care, dental care, vision services, behavioral health services for adults and children, family planning, health promotion and community outreach, wellness and nutrition, and comprehensive HIV/AIDS care. Legacy’s team of health care professionals—physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, social workers, nutritionists, and nurses—tailor services to meet the needs of each patient regardless of age, sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability to pay.


 

Callen-Lorde (NYC)

Callen-Lorde Community Health Center provides sensitive, quality health care and related services targeted to New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities — in all their diversity — regardless of ability to pay. To further this mission, Callen-Lorde promotes health education and wellness and advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender health issues. To this end, they provide quality, sensitive primary care, women’s health, HIV/AIDS care, adolescent care, senior care, transgender care, dental care, sexual health, supportive services, mental health services and pharmacy.


 

Lyon-Martin Health Services (San Francisco)

Lyon-Martin Health Services provides excellent health care to women, lesbians and transgender people in a safe and compassionate environment, with sensitivity to sexual orientation and gender identity; all services are regardless of ability to pay.


 

LA Gay and Lesbian Center (Los Angeles)

The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center provides a broad array of services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, welcoming nearly a quarter-million client visits from ethnically diverse youth and adults each year. Through its Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic and on-site pharmacy, the Center offers free and low-cost health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and HIV/STD testing and prevention. The Center also offers legal,social, cultural, and educational services, with unique programs for seniors,  families and youth,including a 24-bed transitional living program for homeless youth.
