With all the news reports about the new administration taking steps to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, we know there is a lot of fear and confusion about what is actually going on. The number one message that Howard Brown’s Insurance Enrollment team wants you to know is that you CAN still get health insurance, but the Open Enrollment ends in just one week!
Here are some of the most common questions we have been getting:
Hasn’t Congress already voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act? Didn’t President Trump sign an executive order to repeal it? Does that mean I don’t have health insurance anymore or that I can’t enroll?
No. As of now, nothing has changed. What Congress voted on was a budget resolution, or a blueprint for a process that could eventually lead to the repeal of key parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). What that means is that plans, prices, and deadlines are exactly the same as they were before, and if you enroll in coverage now, you will most likely be able to keep your health insurance through at least 2017.
What do you think President Trump and Congress will do about the Affordable Care Act moving forward, and what will they replace it with?
We can’t guess what will happen in the future, but again, what we know for sure is that right now, nothing has changed. People are still eligible for Medicaid or health insurance through the Marketplace with financial assistance, depending on their income. Most plans proposed to replace the Affordable Care Act have built in a transition period, so it is highly unlikely that plans would disappear overnight. Howard Brown’s insurance assisters aren’t going away either, so you can always call us as things change throughout the year!
Will I still be able to get my medications and see my doctor?
Yes! Again, as of right now nothing has changed, and remember that Howard Brown will always see patients whether or not they have insurance and regardless of their ability to pay.
