Women’s Health Outreach and Education Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Women’s Health Outreach Coordinator will assist the Manager of Women’s Health Services in providing overall direction and vision for outreach to sexual minority women in Chicago. The Outreach Coordinator will provide direct services to clients, such as group and individual education, events and outreach focused around women’s issues, and linking patients to services and care provided by Howard brown.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide education to community about HBH’s women’s health programs and build strong community relationships in order to increase patient volume at health centers.

Provide direct outreach and education, including in social settings, bars, churches, at health fairs, schools, colleges and community events.

Identify and assess community venues for feasibility as outreach sites. In conjunction with supervising manager, coordinate appropriate linkages.

Maintain communication with outreach venue owners, managers and security personnel.

Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers for outreach events.

Assist manager with the implementation and monitoring of the community needs assessment, ensuring timely data collection.

Maintain program records and produce monthly reports on program activities, accomplishments and challenges including program statistics, evaluation and demographic data.

Maintain current knowledge of the disparities faced by sexual minority women.

Participate in the development of culturally sensitive, age appropriate sexual and reproductive health and other health promotion materials.

Serve on HBH’s Sexual and Reproductive Health working group.

Attend all required department and Howard Brown Health meetings and training sessions.

Maintain highest level of client confidentiality.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to perform outreach in diverse locations, including churches, bars, clubs, social events and other venues.

A high level of enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and drive.

Experience or training in the area of reproductive health, human sexuality, and/or LGBTQ health needs.

Must be a motivated, self-starter and able to function productively and effectively with a degree of autonomy.

Experience working with diverse populations, speaking in public, and implementing, coordinating, and evaluating programs preferred.

Ability to communicate non-judgmentally, sensitively and accurately about matters related to sexuality, reproductive health issues, values formation, and decision making to young people and adults.

Experience with community outreach and education.

Must possess strong communication and written skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse staff and populations.

High school diploma or equivalent, required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Must be able to work nights and weekends

Must have knowledge of LBTQ community leaders, residents, organizations, institutions, and social hot spots.
