Recovering With Pride

Howard Brown is dedicated to addressing the substance use, abuse and addiction concerns of the LGBT community. Our Recovering with Pride Program has developed specific services and partnerships to cover a full continuum of culturally sensitive care.

For members of the community who have decided to pursue counseling, Howard Brown is licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services to provide multiple levels of outpatient substance abuse care. Our program addresses both alcohol and drug abuse, including prescription medications, marijuana, GHB, ecstasy, heroin, ketamine, and cocaine disorders.

For those who need detoxification, inpatient care or placement in recovery homes, our team has a network of LGBT-sensitive providers in the community who can provide these levels of care. We work closely with the staffs at the Haymarket Center and at the VALEO Program at Chicago Lakeshore Hospital, among others, to insure that clients receive the care they need.

Getting into treatment a three-step process:

  1. Call Lisa Rivitz at 773-388-8886 or Kurt Mohning at 773-388-8905 to schedule an initial, no-fee assessment.
  2. Complete a substance abuse assessment with one of our caring professionals.
  3. Link to services recommended by our team. It is our goal to place clients in the most appropriate care available at Howard Brown or within the community.

Howard Brown is a member of numerous mental health networks, accepting a variety of insurance plans.

Do not let financial concerns stop you from calling for help.  Recovering with Pride is funded in part by the Chicago Department of Public Health to provide free-of-charge counseling for members of the LGBTQ community struggling with substance abuse or dependence who have limited financial resources and are uninsured/underinsured.
