Research Assistant/Recruiter, Behavioral HIV Prevention Study

REPORTS TO:  Study Coordinator and Director of Research Administration
FLSA STATUS:  Non-exempt, full-time

Position Summary*:
Assist in the implementation of study activities across several innovative, behavioral HIV prevention studies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities*:

  • Actively recruit YMSM into HIV prevention studies.
  • Maintain databases and other records of all recruitment activities.
  • Secure the retention of study participants through all phases of studies.
  • Assist in the administration of baseline and follow-up assessments.
  • Administer HIV testing and counseling.
  • Assist in the identification and development of new HIV prevention objectives.
  • Coordinate and schedule routine meetings with community partners.
  • Assist in the administrative follow-up of routine community meetings.
  • Provide back-up and support for all project areas.
  • Adhere to highest level of client and participant confidentiality.
  • Complete other departmental duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
A full-time position in a vibrant, casual work environment. Consists of irregular hours, occurring primarily in afternoon and evening shifts, throughout the Chicagoland area.  Must be able to provide own transportation to sites. Occasional weekend shifts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent work experience, preferably in research-related recruitment of adolescents or other difficult-to-engage populations. Experience working with YMSM populations and excellent connections within youth-serving community preferred. Experience working within multi-organizational partnerships and basic understanding of community organizing/mobilization practices preferred. Must be able to initiate tasks, and work both collaboratively and independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high degrees of organization, interpersonal skills and professionalism required. Additional skills and experience may be required depending on the needs of the project.
